Representative Kathleen Cates reaffirmed her commitment to expanding access for people with disabilities. In an opinion article published by The Santa Fe New Mexican, she notes that In 2023, New Mexico became the first state in the country to mandate coverage of prosthetics and orthotics. Her bill, House Bill 38, amended the 2023 law “to include complex rehabilitation technology devices. These allow people with disabilities to access physical activities and sports, helping to maintain physical health. They also can aid with medically necessary mobility and positioning needs.”
